This weeks article is about how being close to a specific bacteria in the environment can make you smarter. It is shown that this bacteria increase your learning behavior. The bacteria is called Mycrobacterium vaccae and it gets inside the person when they breath it when the person has time in the nature. This bacteria stimulates the growth of neurons in the brain and it decrease anxiety. They tried this discovery on mice and the result was positive; they became smarter. The good thing is that scientists think this effect is temporary.

Our opinion is that this is a discovery that can change our way of thinking about nature. Now that we know this people will want to be close to nature planting trees and that stuff because it will make them smarter. Also this is an excuse to make cities more green and to have more nature in the schools. It affects us because now we will have more time outside and we will increase our learning capacity.

Pesticide Exposure May Contribute to ADHD, Study Finds

This weeks article is about how the use of pesticide in places like gardens may increase the risk of ADHD on children. ADHD is Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. As study made by the journal of pediatric show that he children with ADHD have a certain percentage of pesticide on their pee. This fact was only known in animals until now it was discovered that it affects children too. So children get affected by pesticide because of something they have in it called organophosphates. Our opinion is that this is a really alarming information but this might help us a lot for our health and research. Now parents who are concern about their children know that they cannot be close to pesticide. Also we as children now know we shouldn't be close to pesticides. It definitely affect us because we are children and we want to be healthy.

Lizards face extinction from global warming - study

This weeks article is about how lizards are in danger of extinction because rising global temperature. The problem is that because of the warm temperatures they need to stay in the shade all the time instead of going to eat or getting a mate. By this rate 20% of the lizards will be extinct by 2080. By this lizards eat a lot of insect and they are eaten by bird so they become extinct the food chain will be very affected. When lizards over heat they cannot sweat like mammals so it is harder to survive. The 5% of population of lizards are extinct right now. Maybe the ones that not die, can't reproduce so the population gets affected.

Our opinion is that this is really a bad news and it do affects our ecosystem. This is because their extinction they will affect the food chain and that will affect us. Also this is a sign showing that global warming is already having effects on our planet and its organism. This warming continues not only the lizards will become extinct but other organisms like us. We really hope this problem gets solved and we can save lizards.

Broccoli Component Limits Breast Cancer Stem Cells, Study Finds

This weeks article is about broccoli can prevent breast cancer. Any thing that has has broccoli on it can help to target cancer stem cells and kills it so the tumor stops growing. Then it's easier to make the tumor disappear. Scientists think that eliminating this stem cells is the key to control cancer. This discovery was tested with mice with breast cancer. Then they gave broccoli to them and so the cancer stem cells had disease that make it stop. Then it was tested on humans and it worked as well. The part of the broccoli that helps is also found in capsules for supplement but is better to eat broccoli.

Our opinion is that this is a great discovery that will help a lot of women with breast cancer. We believe too that before applying this to patients this should be tested more because we don't know what are the exact consequences. Still we are happy for this event to occur because this can led to new great discoveries about cancer. We hope this investigation continues.

Four Unhealthy Behaviors Combine to Increase Death Risk

This weeks article is about how a new study has confirmed that when you combine smoking, lack of physical activity, alcohol, and a bad diet you have a big chance to die. The study shows that this combination can cause cardiovascular disease, cancer, and as we said a rate for dieing early. This means that if you smoke, eat no vegetables or fruits, have less than 2 physical hours a week and 14 units of 8 grams of alcohol for women and 21 units for men, you may this consequences. The chances for you to get one of this diseases increase with each poor behavior. For example when people which poor behavior were tested with people with good behaviors they had a bigger chance to die by dieing 12 years sooner.

Our opinion is that we think that it is a really alarming news but it is totally true. We just learned that we had bigger chance for diseases and death if we have this four behaviors. It affects us because we are in the age that some of us will start doing this behaviors and by teaching and promoting this information we might be avle to save their lives. Also we can save our lives by not doing this now that we know. We appreciate the fact that we know now this information.

Iceland Volcano Could Continue Erupting for More Than a Month, Researcher Says

This weeks article is about how Europe's airports are closed because of a volcano eruption. There are hypothesis that this eruption can continue for maybe a year or more. This happens because the volcano Eyjafjallajokull's ashes can affect the plains engines and it also makes it hard to see. Norway for example can smell the sulphur and they find ash in their cars. Also it is beleived that its volcano Katla may also erupt. But also there are not expected greater eruptions.
Our opinion is that this an awful problem because it affect us in a really bad way. Now a lot of people are missing planes and are not able to see their families. It affects us in the way that some people are not going to enjoy vacantions to Europe. Also it teaches us that we need to be ready for any catastrophe. Also the people who be near, their help will because of ashes. We hope this ends soon.

Massive Arctic Ice Cap Is Shrinking, Study Shows; Rate Accelerating Since 1985

This weeks article is about how one of the largest ice pieces over Canada has shrunk. This piece is part of Devon island. 50 years of data show that between 1961 and 1985 the ice piece has lost a lot of ice. The reason for this changes are because of the warm summers. Since global warming that area has been affected a lot and it takes years for the ice to increase. Besides, it has also thin and shrink. This can really affect sea level and ship traffic.

Our opinion is that this is a really important issue we need to resolve now. This is a problem that can cause us our lives and planet. Again we see another affect on Global Warming and this time we are talking about one of the largest ice island of North Canada. This can really affect us because this can cause increase on sea level which can flood the surroundings of our country like the beach and can drown a lot of people. Besides we like to go to the beach. We believe this needs to be solved quick ly with the collaboration of all the world. We hope we see a change soon.

Eating Like a Bird Helps Forests Grow

This weeks article is about how the way the birds eat helps the forest to grow. If we examine the food chain of the forest we will see that birds eat little insects. By doing this, birds indirectly help plants grow more. Also by doing this, they decrease pests on crops. Before it was thought that birds eating insects would not affect the plant growth but the new investigations show that it does help. Also bats and lizards help as a result 40% of damage on plants is reduced and 14% of plants has increased.
Our opinion is that this discovery is really important because it shows us how our environment works. This helps us understand more how we can protect it. For example now we know that it is really important to protect birds because they are saving forests which gives us oxygen to live. This affect us because we all need oxygen to live and we have a lot of birds in this country, so we can give our part help protect the birds. Also now that we know it we can study better natural ways to help our environment. We are very happy about this discovery.

Mini Generators Make Energy from Random Ambient Vibrations

This article is about how the University of Michigan invented a tiny generator that makes energy from the vibrations in the air. The vibrations are produced with simple things like traffic, factories, and even people exercising. They were invented by Khalil Najafi and Tzeno Galchev. The good thing about this generators is that they have more abilities than normal devices because they have a better energy source. This genarators use electromagnetic that is coil in a magnetic field and there are three of this generators existed. This generators can produce 500 micro-watts from simple body vibration. This is energy that can be used with a wrist watch and a pace maker. The point of this is to replace batteries specially with in-wireless devices.
Our opinion is that this is a really important invention that can change our life. This is way better than batteries because batteries when all its energies have been used, they take out a poisoning substance that contaminates the world a lot. Also this is a good way of how we can use the bad emissions from factories and traffic. Besides it invites us to do more exercise. It affect us because we are seeing change in our world and some day we will be able to buy this generators and make our lives simpler. We are really happy this event happen and we hope more of this generators are produced as well as more inventions will be created.
The bias are that
Khalil Najafi and Tzeno Galchev believed that this is really important and will change the future life.

Chemical in Bananas Identified as Potent Inhibitor of HIV Infection

This weeks article is about how scientists discover that he banana has the solution to HIV transmission. Bananas contain a part in them called BanLec which is a potent in this fruit. This is really as potent as a two anti-HIV drugs and it is less expensive if it is applied on the vaginal part of the body. Solutions for HIV are really needed so this is a really good solution specially in poor countries where this problem is really affective. What the banana do is to attach to the virus and block its entry to the body. The difficult part is that the chemical needs to be isolated from the banana but it is still possible.
Our opinion is that we are happy that this discovery has been found because it will help a lot. We believe as well as other people that using banana is better than using therapies or drugs because they have a longer range of protection and it stops the virus from mutations. Also it is cheaper so it will help poor countries which are the most affected. So now, we will eat more bananas reducing our chance of getting HIV!

Will Coral Reefs Disappear?

This weeks article is about how corral reefs may disappear. Doctor Simon Donner a profesor in the university talked bout how corral reefs become affected by climate change or higher ocean temperature. Corrals get their energy from algae but this algae gets affected when the ocean gets warmer so the corral lacks energy and dies. Based on Dr. Simon that even if we froze emissions today the planet has enough warming to left on it so this is really dangerous for the corrals. A lot of people who live in coast areas get affected because corrals mean a lot to them. The good part is that it seems they won't become completely extinct but they will only live on certain habitats.
Our opinion is that this is a really concerning event and it should be stopped. We think that we are ruining our world and we are starting with the corrals reefs. It affects us in the way that it affects peolple that live in the coast areas adn now they won't have enough food or tourism.

H1N1 virus' death toll as high as 17,000, CDC estimates

This weeks article is about how the H1N1 flu, or swine flu, may kill as many as 17,000 Americans according to the Centers of Disease Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta. They have confirmed that 2,498 confirmed deaths between January 30 the agency estimates that 8, 330 and 17, 160 people actually died from the flu. The majority of people who died between 6,390 and 13, 170 were 18 to 64 years old. But, between 880 and 1,180 children 17 years old and younger also died from the flu. In comparison, the CDC says that in regular flu season, with 90 percent of the deaths usually occur in people from 65 and older.
Our opinion is that this disease can affect us the same way as it affected the people who died so we truly believe that there needs to be an efficient solution to this sickness. We are afraid that if we get the disease we will die and that way of thinking really affects our daily life because we are afraid of every sickness even a single flu. It affect us because this sickness is common in this times so we can get sick. We really hope a better solution is created so that we don't worry in the future.

Engineers Aim to Make Air Travel Greener

This weeks article is about a new invention that will turn carbon emissions into material for wing panels for aircraft this research was funded by Engineering and Physical Science Research Council and will happen is that people will use carbon fibres to make parts of this new green air vehicle. This transport will save fuel and reduce carbon dioxide. A lot of smart people and groups are collaborating to do this project. It is believed that this project may help the environmental problems in the future, that is why scientists are so excited about this.

Our opinion is that this is really a great invention because it will fight against environmental problems by saving fuel and reducing CO2 emissions. At the pase our earth is going this will really halp a lot. And even though the aircraft itself hasn´t been created it is a great idea that we hope will soon turn into a reality. It affects us because we are saving the earth and that is our home as well as everyone´s. If we destroy it we will not have any place to live and this project is protecting our home. When the aircraft comes out we will have less polution so it really would help everyone, including us, to live better. We really hope the invention is done soon.

Bias: A lot of people and groups want this to really happen like Dr.Butler who is really into this project.

The theme is environment and somehow health too because without carbon dioxide our health would improve.

Stem Cell Breakthrough: Bone Marrow Cells Are the Answer

This weeks article is about how scientists from Iowa and Iran discovered a new strategy for making embryonic stem cells using cells from mice. It involves using bone marrow cells to embryonic stem cells. Once fused, the hybrid cells have DNA from both the donor and the recipient raising hopes that immune rejection of embryonic stem cells therapies can be avoided without drugs. The study holds greats promises for the future embryonic stem cells. They then discovered that these cells could fuse into different types of cells in addition to embryonic stem cells icluding liver, heart, kidney, and gut.
Our opinion is that it is a great discovery because it allowed us as humans to cure diseases with stem cells without the need to kill a embryo. We are happy because some diseases that before couldn't be cured and that it can really make the difference on sick people. We are affected because if one day we become sick or someone that we know is sick now he or she will be able to live a normal life.

Ozone Hole Healing Could Cause Further Climate Warming

This weeks article is about how the ozone whole is closing finally the biggest environmental problem is healing, but is this actually helping us? Scientists discovered that this whole actually helps to shield the region which it is from carbon-induced warming, and now the help is closing. These created high speed winds beneath the hole which made clouds which reflect powerful sun rays. This helped to reduce global warming. Now this winds are dying making carbon dioxide rise and that can affect the climate. Scientists believe that this can accelerate warming in the southern hemisphere.
Bias:Scientists really believe this can affect global warming.
Opinion: Our opinion about this topic is that it is really confusing because there is nothing we can do to help because if we do something it can riseglobal warming. What we thought was good now turns to be bad. It affects us because we are increasing global warming an that affects everyone. Now in our opinion there is no solution.

NASA finds cocaine in shuttle hangar

This weeks article is about that the NASA founded cocaine in the hangar of the Kennedy Space Center in Tampa, Florida. The NASA people informed that they are doing an investigation about of small amount of cocaine they found in a very restricted area. The director of the institute said that it is small incident that won't happen again and that won't disturb any worker. Based on the investigation, there were 200 NASA workers that were around the crime scene at that time. The cocaines was found in a little bag in the floor near a bathroom in a restricted area. The people think this won't affect the next launching. The good thing is that there is a lot of security in the investigation.
Our opinion is that it is a total irresponsibility of the NASA to don't have the enough security to get any person with cocaine inside there. We are afraid because this is a demonstration that in every place there are bad people who want to destroy health. It affect us because if someone could enter cocaine in the NASA, which is one of the most secure places, then people can enter drugs or even bombs to any place. Also, it shows that the security itself has decreased there and everywhere. We hope that this won't happen again.
